From spreadsheets to stories: Unpacking the new CED3 upgrades

In the demanding educational landscape, data can often feel overwhelming -a relentless stream of figures reporting on past events, offering little insight into the underlying causes or how to acknowledge successes.

Turn data into applause with ‘Let's Celebrate’ 

The most exciting addition to the CED3 HSC Dashboard is the ‘Let's Celebrate’ feature. We know schools are good at tracking top bands, but what about the classes that are quietly achieving personal bests?

This new view moves beyond just listing high ATARs. It uses data to identify momentum, helping you spot:

  • ‘Breakout Courses: Subjects that have seen a sudden surge in popularity or success compared to previous years.

  • Steady Risers: Courses that are showing consistent year-on-year improvement.

  • Course Crowd Favourites: Insights into which electives (excluding compulsory subjects like English and Maths) are capturing student imagination.

By visualising this data, you can acknowledge the teachers and faculties building momentum, not just those with the highest raw scores.

The ‘School Unpacked’ experience 

Navigating HSC results can be overwhelming. The new HSC Landing Page simplifies this by dividing insights into five intuitive categories.

The ‘School Unpacked’ dashboard offers a comprehensive cohort celebration. It provides a snapshot of your school’s performance, highlighting Distinguished Achievers, Top Achievers, and First in Course recipients in one easy-to-digest view.

For a deeper dive, the ‘Student Detailed List’ allows you to filter achievements by course, while the ‘Course Unpacked’ view lets you drill down into the success of individual subjects within your school system.

Visualising Impact: Z-Scores and Jitter Graphs 

Data clarity is key to better decision-making. The upgrades introduce sophisticated visualisations that make complex statistical concepts accessible.

  • Z-Score Comparisons: Want to know how your class compares to the state average? The new dashboard measures performance in "standard deviations," showing you exactly how far above or below the state mean your school sits. This helps identify your ‘Top Scoring Classes’ and ‘Standout Z-score stories’.

  •  Jitter Graphs: The ‘Student Band Distribution’ dashboard now features jitter graphs. These allow you to identify clustered results and outliers, offering a visual comparison of a student’s Moderated Assessment against their Exam Mark and overall HSC Mark.

CED3 Home: All your insights in one place 

We have streamlined how you access your data with the introduction of CED3 Home. This new landing page acts as a central hub, bringing together key reporting areas such as NAPLAN, Attendance, and PAT Testing into one convenient location.

Rather than sifting through menus, you can now find streamlined insights for tracking student enrolments, demographics, and operational reports all from a single entry point.

Faster, safer and scalable 

We've focused on internal development to make the platform as insightful as it is robust. The CEnet cloud data warehouse has been upgraded to the Snowflake platform, which allows for ‘elastic scalability’ - adapting to your needs without added costs. This means:

  • Faster reports: Upgrades to the Yellowfin servers mean your reports generate more quickly.

  • Enhanced security: Your data is secured with end-to-end encryption (both at rest and in transit) and protected by Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

  • Reliability: Improved data processing ensures the information you need is available when you need it.
